Driving Offences Over the Holidays: Licence Loss and Your Legal Options

Holiday periods often bring an increase in traffic on the roads across the Central West. With more people travelling, attending social events and spending time away from home, it is also a time when police presence is heightened. In Western NSW 1,507 traffic infringement notices were issued and 30,085 breath tests conducted.

For many people, a driving offence can feel relatively minor at the time — particularly where there is no accident or injury. However, offences such as speeding, drink driving, driving while suspended, or using a mobile phone while driving can carry significant penalties, including fines, demerit points and loss of licence.

Losing your licence can have a substantial impact when public transport isn’t readily available for the majority of our region.
